pages in this sectionBooks Received - An Update
Listed below are the books received for review since the last update, which was back on 14 November 2011.
Fifteen new titles in this time around, which takes our total for the year to 164, of which 33½ have been written or edited by women (20%). This compares with a figure of 26% for the books I've reviewed by women. For the statistically minded, I'll be back in the New Year with a more detailed post on who and what I've reviewed in 2011.
Staring down the list of books received, it's good to see some titles by Black Static contributors, past and present. Christopher Fowler, Gary Fry, M. G. Preston and Alison Littlewood are all there, and I'm especially pleased to receive A Cold Season as I've been friends with Ali for a number of years, and it's gratifying when nice (and talented) people do well.
Alison Littlewood will be our featured author in the next issue of Black Static (#27 in February), with a review of A Cold Season and an in-depth interview. In view of the personal connection I've co-opted Stephen Theaker to write the review, a man who shares the same critical values as me but isn't on the same Christmas card mailing lists, though I'll be doing the interview as I know all the awkward and embarrassing questions to ask.
Also in the list are five titles from award winning American publisher Dark Regions Press, including the new collection by Simon Strantzas, which I'm looking forward to, having thoroughly enjoyed his previous two releases. The publication dates shown are guesstimates as although I've been pleased by just about every title I've seen from DRP, their website defeats me when it comes to determining release dates.
This will almost certainly be the last Case Notes blog post this side of Christmas, so season's greetings to all our readers, and wishing you all the best for the coming holidays.
As ever, people are welcome to query me regarding the possibility of a review by writing to whitenoise@ttapress.com with the usual caveat that an expression of interest does not guarantee if or when a review will be done.
