Ligeti's Le Grand Macabre

3rd Sep, 2009

Author: Peter Tennant

Before Ligotti there was the composer György Sándor Ligeti (1923 - 2006), perhaps best known for music used by Kubrick in the soundtracks of 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Shining and Eyes Wide Shut.

Ligeti's surrealist masterpiece Le Grand Macabre, presented by the 'total theatre' company who created the acclaimed Barcelona Olympics opening ceremony, will be playing at the English National Opera in London between 17 September and 9 October, with six performances only.

There's a link to English National Opera at the foot of the page. Later in the year they are doing productions of Britten's The Turn of the Screw (based on the classic novella by Henry James) and Duke Bluebeard's Castle by Bartok.

And if you're wondering what the heck I'm doing posting about this on White Noise, then check out the video trailer below to see why it just might be of interest.

White Noise - bringing you the news that other horror sites give a wide berth.
