I'm quoting Alex Davies below. (with a couple of very minor alterations - like spam proofing the e mail)

Quote:
...it's been decided that Alt.Fiction will now be run by a steering group based here in Derby, taking in some of our partner organizations plus some of our superb volunteers, who will have the chance to get more fully involved in the event. There were some really exciting ideas coming out yesterday, and it obviously enables us to bring new skills and knowledge to the event. I may be involved in the steering group to a small extent, but time will tell on that one. The event takes place next year over the weekend of 21st-23rd May at its new venue, Derby Quad. It's an exciting venue move, as it opens up possibilities to extend the programme into film and multimedia.

The booking of the event is going to be the responsibility of my current job-share, Catherine Rogers, who typically works on a Monday and Tuesday- some of you may well have met her at the event earlier this year. You can reach her at catherine (dot) rogers at derby (dot) gov (dot) uk.

Alex has left Derby Literature Development now and I want to thank him for his work at Alt Fiction. TTA took full advantage with a selling table there, we had a good time and so did many others. All the best in your new job Alex.

Hi Roy,

Thanks a lot for that- I thoroughly enjoyed working on the event, and it'll be great fun to head down next year as a punter!! Hopefully the event will continue to grow bigger and better.

Cheers

Alex

Just heard that Alt Fiction 2009 dates are likely to be later those given above. Most likely is Sat June 20th with an event the night before, on Fri 19th, for early arrivers. Other possible dates are May 30th and 27th June.

We'll update as we hear more.

I've not been to this before...
Is it still going to be in Derby?

Alt Fiction will be held at Derby's new £multi-million arts centre, QUAD, planned date; Saturday June 20th with a Friday evening 'launch event' for those arriving the night before.

Alt Fiction 2009 is a victim of the financial climate as Derby has dispensed with its literature development post. Catherine Rogers is going on to work for Writing East Midlands (a new regional writer’s agency based in Nottingham) and this should result in future Alt.Fictions being supported by WEM, which is very keen to keep the event.

Alt fiction should be back in 2010 and there will be satellite events in Derby later this year.

BFA site message: Alt Fiction returns in 2010.

Alt Fiction 2010 is scheduled for Saturday 12th June. The Venue is the Quad, which is opposite the Assemby Rooms in Derby. Peter Coleborn wrote that the event will be offically launched in November.
