Sounds a good antho. I haven't read it - enjoyed Michael Kelly's 'bookend' stories in the Best Of though.

Today's editor is Allyson Bird:-

Never heard of this anthology. Sounds like an interesting blend of classic stories and more obscure work.

No more editors waiting in the wings, so today's post is all my own work:-

I may come to regret it.

Oh! But - I was planning an antho where all the stories would have the same name as a Showaddywaddy song.

Back to the drawing board again...

That's fascinating stuff, Pete. Coincidently, today I picked up Jonathan Strahan's The Best Science Fiction and Fantasy of The Year volume 4 and Rich Horton's The Year's Best Science Fiction & Fantasy 2010. Haven't had much of a chance to look at them yet.

Great job, Pete. Not anyone would address such a painstaking statistical analysis. The results are quite interesting.
I haven't seen the Jones and Datlow anthologies yet, and usually I don't agree with most of their choices  . I'm currently reading Guran's hefty Year's Best and I must say her selection is much more eclectic - I'm not saying that is better....
Hopefully none of those commendable Year's Best volumes will get Awards anymore (as in the past). I believe it's unfair to get awards just for picking up the "best" stories from other editors' anthologies.... :(

Thanks guys. My head's still spinning from all those figures.

Mario, I have Jones and Datlow, but not Guran (at least yet). I'm curious - does she have any material besides fiction (e.g. summation of the year in horror)?

I think I agree with you about awards and best of anthologies, though I'll entertain arguments to the contrary. They do seem to have an unfair advantage. Of course, this year awards will go to "The Mammoth Book of the Best of Best New Horror"... Ever decreasing circles, my friends.

Pete, I got a PDF file of the Guran anthology :( (I usually hate PDFs and refuse to get those instead of an actual book but this was my only opportunity to see that book). There's no year's summation as in the Jones and Datlow volumes, unless of course the file was incomplete.

Mario, you're correct, there are no summations (although the story count is huge) but Ms Guran includes a brief comment on each story alongside the author bios.

I'm only partway through this anthology but it seems like there's enough room for this to sit together with the Jones and Datlow ones. I hope it does well enough for the series to continue.
