I have had very little reading time for the past 1 1/2 years, but I'm reading Greg Egan's Incandescence right now. It is a slow read and I do not know if I'll finish it. The story is partly about two people who teach themselves General Relativity. They live near the centre of our galaxy and become interested in what we'd call the gravitational forces of their environment. Quite conveniently, they have enough maths to start experimenting and theorising. This strikes me as artificial, so it is not holding my interest. I'm thinking of rereading Bob Shaw's The Palace of Eternity, which I remember liking a lot.
Any advice about that choice?
