There's a "55 Reading Questions" thing running round blogs at the moment. My answers are here: http://andrew-hook.blogspot.co.uk/2012/ ... tions.html. Anyone else done this or wants to share?

I remember the first book I read and it was a favourite at the time also Blyton and the eagle was evil as it attacked the sheep and 'Shadow the Sheepdog'. Innocent days.

I remember Five On a Treasure Island scaring the crap out of me - it was that bit where they find statues in the woods and think they're ghosts. Or I thought they were ghosts. Or something.

Innocent days, indeed :D

Like your answer to number 20:

What makes you love a book?

When I read a book and think to myself that ‘I can’t believe anyone wrote this’, rather than ‘I can’t believe anyone published this’.

Answer number 49 is a truism too - Now all mine are shelved author alphabetical I think I'll only buy books from authors whose surname starts with Z :)

Yevgeny Zamyatin can expect an upsurge in interest

Your #42, I did wonder if "The White Goddess" was the Robert Graves you had in mind. A really, really tedious book, though I've enjoyed all the others of his that I've read.

I've just searched Graves' work but the titles are unfamiliar unless it was Collected Short Stories. I no longer have the book. I remember it being turgid - and possibly about cricket, which I loathe anyway. Not someone I'm likely to return to.

Possibly his short story "The Shout":-

I haven't read it, or any of his short stories for that matter, but I have seen the film.

Interesting so far that none of us get stuff out of the library...

And Pete: it could have been that story. The bit you referenced makes it sound great, but I just couldn't get into it.

I've had a go too.

I don't use the library much either.

Great set of answers Ray. Lovely to meet you and Victoria at Fantastycon, nice to put faces to names.

Yes, good to meet you too eventually, Ross - I still owe you a drink. Can't believe we were sat in the same reading and missed each other somehow.

I'll say it again - cool t-shirt.

Yes Roy, I was sat on the same row as you at the Ghost story panel but as it dragged on quite late I headed straight back to my hotel when it finished. I think I ended up missing quite a few people which I suppose can happen when there are a lot of different things running at the same time.
