Ken Slater died on Saturday. Condolences to his family.

This news from the F&SF blog. Ken was THE specialist SF bookseller in the UK for many years trading as Fantast Medway, mainly by mail order, from Wisbech. I knew Ken at conventions and bought many books and magazines off him those gatherings and by post.

Gordon van Gelder wrotethat "Ken’s funeral will be held on Thursday, Feb. 28 at a crematorium in King’s Lynn, followed by tea at a hotel in Grimston. "

He turned 90 in December and was one of two people involved in British SF fandom before World War 2 still around - and the other one was and is Sir Arthur C Clarke.

I can't say I knew Ken at all well but I did talk to him in the dealers' room at past Eastercons. Seemed a good guy and he had an energy and enthusiasm which would put many much younger men to shame.

The Eastercon dealers' room will look an odd place next month without him there - and without Marion Van der Voort (of At the Sign of the Dragon) whom I'd also chatted with and who passed away before Christmas.

Condolences to both families.
