Anyone seen District 9 yet? There seems to be a lot of hype about the film and most of it seems positive. Has Peter Jackson got another winner here?

I really want to see it. And I want one of the "Humans Only" posters for my door at uni :p

It's out on the 4th Sept for those who haven't downloaded it or watched a streaming video of it over the net. Think I'll pay an arm and a leg and watch this one in the cinema, heard lots of good things about it.

Meh... I disliked TDTESS and the last X-files movie was also a big let down, but I loved D9. Of course, as with any movie that draws serious attention there is plenty of haters, too.

I saw it last night, and I must say that it's the best film I've seen in a long time.

It was engaging, immersive, and the plot didn't make any ridiculous jumps. It progressed entirely naturally from the intial premise of refugee aliens. Jackson did a fantastic job with this, and I think it's his best film yet.

I particularly loved the fact that the aliens didn't land in America, and that I counted only a handful of American accents. And the South African accent was wonderful.

The documentary element was well executed too, being an integrated part of the story rather than something that felt simply tacked on to explain the presence of the aliens.

Did anyone else who saw it notice that when every Wikus swore, he sounded scouse? Or was that just me?

If this is true then risible seems a poor choice of word.

I saw the film yesterday and I thought there were many flaws in its back story/setup, which would be questioned in a novel, but probably are just about OK in a movie if you don't think about it.

I saw it last week. Obviously written for an SF audience - if it had been horror, they'd have skinned the aliens and slipped their flesh on like a glove to operate those weapons. Come to that, I wondered why they didn't dismantle the weapons (which didn't seem that superior to human armaments anyway) to find out how they worked rather than faffing around with alien DNA. There were other plot glitches, as pointed out in The Zone review.

Still, I did enjoy it, just not as much as other people's comments led me to expect I would. The documentary stuff was good, as was the SA setting, and that huge spacecraft always there in the background, like the elephant in the room. And the aliens were intriguingly different. I could have done without the precocious child though. I can always do without precocious kids, and the fact that he was a Prawn didn't alter that.
