I have details for the guidelines for Northwest Vision And Media’s Digital Shorts Scheme 2009/10

They are part of an Film Council Lottery funded (£12,000 per successful entry) UK wide initiative to encourage provocative, innovative and risk-taking new cinema

As they are UK wide maybe a few of you will be interested and if you want further details pm me or Facebook or Tweet TTA. There is a deadline of 5 Nov for entries.

At Odyssey Eastercon I met a short film SF maker called Jim (from Yorkshire) who may well be interested but I can’t remember his last name. If anyone knows who I mean please pass this on.

From the BBC Writers Room your chance to write for Dr Who. Sorry about the short deadline.

Big Finish opportunity for new writers

Big Finish make original audio adventures, including Doctor Who.

They're asking new writers to pitch ideas for a one-off, 25-minute Fifth Doctor and Nyssa audio adventure, which they hope will make up one of four single-episode stories comprising a future Doctor Who release.

Any prospective writer whose proposal interests them sufficiently may be invited to develop their proposal further, and anyone whose idea enters production will be offered a standard Big Finish writer’s contract.

Deadline: 1 February 2010

The Big Idea
Shine Pictures are proud to announce a national competition for feature film concepts, with a prize of a £25,000 feature film development deal.

Who can apply?
This is not an entry level competition, so you need to have either a produced or optioned screenplay, an agent, a festival acclaimed short, an hour of broadcast TV drama, a play that has been performed, writing that has been published, or an equivalent industry achievement.

Finally "a maximum 15 page writing sample together with its logline." so what is a logline?

Senior Corporate Relations Manager (Bristol or Manchester based)

Creative England is the first dedicated development agency for the creative industries outside London. We develop creative talent, ensuring that the best talent is supported, nurturing film culture and maximising inward investment across the English regions.

But that’s not all. One of our most important tasks in 2012 is to support television, games, digital and creative services, and that’s where our new Senior Corporate Relations Manager will play a vital role in the planning development and implementation of all communications and corporate affairs activities.

We are now looking for a first class leader in corporate relations, to develop our strategic relationships with key stakeholders across the English regions. This is a key role in this exciting, new organisation. You will work closely with the CEO in building strategic partnerships. They will also lead and manage the communications team and, as a member of the Senior Management Team, ensure the communications strategy is embedded within the company.

Based in Creative England’s offices in either Bristol or Manchester, the Senior Corporate Relations Manager will provide strategic communications leadership both internally and externally. Creative England is looking for someone who shares our mission and can generate ideas to achieve this. The ideal candidate will understand the value of information and how best to disseminate it. You will have original ideas, a great eye for a story and an ability to build strong relationships. Charm, a quick wit, originality, strong writing and communication skills, and a real enjoyment of what we do are pre-requisites.

Post subject:  Re: Opportunities?

I'd not heard of this but Phil Emery told me about it today. We haven't read the small print and you may get innundated with adverts for books on writing screenplays but.... if you are keen on movie scriptwriting and somewhere at the back of the bottom drawer or buried on your hard drive...

Original ideas
Upload your original script at Amazon Studios by clicking "Start a New Project" at the top of the page. Every script is evaluated by our story department. We'll have 45 days to decide whether to pay you to add your project to our Development Slate. You may submit a script privately for the 45-day option and evaluation period (with only the title and premise competing in the public Premise War game). Learn more about the Development Slate
Paid Assignments
Check the listings below for paid assignments on projects under development. We're looking for independent contractors for writing, directing and other work. Learn more about paid assignments
The list below also includes current contests at Amazon Studios for trailers or other contributions.

Creative England get taxpayers money to do all this so if you are an author you might find something here. I'm near Manchester and might go along. Anyone else fancy that one?
It might be worth it for the possibility of a free drink or cheesy comestible courtesy of the taxpayer. (Let me know if you fancy going.)
