I've just finished watching it on FX. Very enjoyable - the two leads are a little dull and clichéd at times but the supporting cast more than makes up for it. It's funny and takes some unexpected twists, and has one of the best opening credits sequences ever.

Great stuff, though it does give the impression Sookie is a pole dancer rather than the waitress she is in the books (I'm guessing the woman in the credits is not Sookie), and also the tone looks a lot darker than the books, not that they were entirely sunny.

Interesting you found the leads dull, RJ. Vampire Bill I thought was a bit one-dimensional in the book, and guess the actor couldn't do much with that, but Sookie was a lot more fun and Anna Paquin seems to be picking up awards and critical acclaim from all sides.

Having watched all of the first series, I can tell you that it's definitely worth a watch. A welcome change after the Twilight crap that the vampire sub-genre has been enduring lately. I wasn't blown away by Miss Paquin's performance, but she does a good job, and the supporting characters are top notch- as well as the fact that the basic premise is very interesting and allows for a lot of exploring.

Be prepared for the sex though. There's a lot of it, which is all well and good. But it can seem a bit excessive... I dunno, maybe that was just me Still, definitely worth a look.

Oh, I almost forgot. Look out for a rather bizarre appearance by Admiral Cain from BSG, in one of the later episodes

Watched it last night and was suitably impressed. Long time since I read the first book, but as far as I can recall it seemed pretty faithful, other than that the book was entirely from Sookie's perspective, so though we got to hear about stuff such as Jason's sexual antics it was never actually shown, as it was in the show - I wonder why they made that change, not that I'm complaining at all

I don't have sound on my computer, so last night was the first time I've heard the music that went with the opening credits, and it put a slightly different spin on them. Less sinister, more knowing, hipper. Anyway, I'm hooked, so that's Wednesday night taken care of for the next eleven weeks
