Well, I'm back after a long absence, just in time for BB, and hoping that everyone else is here eagerly anticipating a roisterous series. My notebook is ready, my pencils are sharpened...let's hope it's a good one!

PS - Des, delighted about the avatar!

Hey, I've just realised it's started tonight!!! I'll have to catch up - hoping that Marion does her usual aide memoire. Seriously, I may not have much time this season to watch it regularly. :(

I've just had a quick look. They all seem like model men and women of a similar age (all good looking) out to get a career in show business. A bit of a talent show rather than the old-fashioned Big Brother... :(

First Impressions

Well, they have all described themselves in a way they believe makes them interesting; nearly all of them were unconvincing. How long before the real people appear and images are dropped? Not long since they claimed such ridiculous things. At the moment, my chief fascination was with the height of the shoes and the brevity of the skirts.

Deana is Miss India and drifted in on a cloud of white chiffon and earrings which once served as chandeliers at the Palace of Versailles. She claims she is happy to tell people that they are fat and that she cannot understamd why other girls feel threatened by her. She claimed not to be perturbed by having to nominate three HMs face to face - until she actually had to. What a tedious process she made of it! She also failed to give reasons for all her nominations - she should be put up herself for that.

Aaron is a male model and really cannot imagine why other people keep on finding him attractive (preen, preen). He also coyly confessed to being a WOW with the ladies. Unconvincing - he is good looking in a vapid sort of way but lacks the oomph of true sex appeal.

Caroline, she of the birds' nest hair, appears to have modelled heraself on Josie of grubby duvet fame - like Josie, she has no luck with the men. No doubt she will transform herself like Josie/Cinderella!

Shievonne A strange one. Very pretty with a touch of class, but an ex Playboy bunny (and still is a bunny on the inside), yet has an intelligent face and the manner of a very good teacher. She doesn't drink water, only E numbers which make her zany - but I never saw a less zany face.
Interesting girl - and I rather took to her. Why I don't know but first impressions are always a mystery!

Conor the irishman My heart sank as this one spoke. He knows he's sexy because everyone tells him so and he's a babe magnet. He is also gross, describing sex games he plays with his outsize organ (this must happen while he's waiting for the next lady to arrive). Anyhow, he delights in his own grossness - modelling himself on Jay from last year? I was so relieved when Deana nommed him.

Lauren student who can drive a tractor and karate you to death. I can live with the tractor and the lethal hands, but she has a simpering laugh which is bound to irritate.

Luke the chef from Wales. Married and an ex ladies ' man. An ex lady too, he has confessed. This could be confusing.
But like Shievonne, he appears to have depth.

Adamthe Transatlantic man, fresh from the hellhole prisons of LA. Desperate to tell us about gangs and his convictions for assaults etc - and his reformation to pristine goodness. Trying to please everyone? Time will tell - but what was unbearable was his talk of bodily functions. I hate that.

Sara the model from Edinburgh. She's a Beauty Queen (nearly) and was wearing (nearly) the shortest , lowest cut dress of the evening. She's as proud of her ill temper as she is of keeping that dress up. And she likes chavs in tracksuits.

Scott, heavily gelled and talks like a BBC radio presenter circa 1930, what-ho. He's a student of history and literature. He insists he's not really posh, that his father is a ruffian and that the family has chav connections. Another one trying to please everyone. He also announced for the first time that he is gay, although he expects his family have already guessed that. I expect they have too, Scott. But he's another one with something appealing about him.

Ashleigh, the Essex girl. Fake tan, hair, nails, and extremely foul mouthed. I'm bored already. The only intersting thing about her was that she appeared to be wearing my old Granny's tablecloth as a dress.

Luke2, the entrepreneur and club promoter, whatever that is. He is more passionate about his own physique, of which he is a great admirer, than his worlk he also claims to be a babe magnet. Must be a new fashion for women to go pursuing men who look like models from knitting pattern booklets.

Lydia[/b, yet another model and dancer. Her partner is someone famous I've never heard of and wishes to step out from his shadow. It must be a very small shadow, methinks, so it shouldn't be too hard to achieve. She did her best to be terribly nice - until she got nominated. Thought she was going to jump up and bop Deana. Her rage was such that poor Deana tried to change her nomination. Oh, dear, not quite cricket, Lydia.

[b]Benedict
, male stripper and porn actor. He even does the Butler In The Buff telegram thing. He used to be a teacher until he was sacked for stripping and appearing in porn (presumably not on school premises for which he would have been arrested). He put up a sterling defence of porn making, viewing, and participation. let's hope he doesn't act on his beliefs in the house.

Chris, a doorman and bailiff, professions edged with danger. According to him he's a babe magnet too - which made me laugh hysterically - he looks like a chav cherub and talks like a chipmunk who's been inhaling helium.

Victoria, ex Playboy and Penthouse model. She threatens to strip when she's had a drink. She's an animal activist and in love with her dogs. She has far more presence than any other woman in the room. Perhaps that's why Deana nominated her? Deana says she nommed her for having evil eyes though. Which seemed a silly thing to say but Deana ia a rather silly woman.

I think we can discount much of what they say about themselves, Des - it' s clear that they say what they think will get them on the show. They have chosen the parts they will play and it's all going to come tumbling down very shortly. Let the games commence!

Sorry, to hear that Marion. (I'd keep a copy of your report before trying to post it here in future - so that you can copy and paste it later - or perhaps you have kept it?).
I saw some of last night. A crowd of people growing on me. Some interesting individuals. I hope we're not going to have Shilpa Shetty type trouble surrounding Deana! A charming woman. Not sure about my fellow Essex-mate, though (Ashleigh?). Quite like Lydia's eventual attitude to her nomination. Hopes she doesn't go.
The usual sex talk gets a bit boring, though. And was that someone with a sock tattooed to his foot and calf? i.e a real tattoo looking as if it is a sock!? Seems a symbol for our times.

I don't understand that, Marion, why it said you didn't have "permission", because you clearly do. The only thing that occurs is that your post might've been too long, though the character limit seemed to be hardly a limit at all. Still, I've removed that limit, just in case.

As Des says, better make use of the "save draft" button for a while, and if it happens again please let me know.

I think I pressed the little submit button under the big submit button.

I can't remember all I said last night but will give a potted version since I have revised my first impressions already now that the opning moves have been made.
There is more to Deana than meets the eye. She was positively wimpy making her apologies to Lydia and Victoria but successfully mollified them both to the extent that Lydia now wants to be her friend. Queen talkes pawn?
Then she subtly flattened Benedict. he was scmoozing round, trying to draw Deana out. (He does this by staring women in the eye until they cannot look away) telling her the life story. Then he announced his porn CV to her, implying he's a bit of a star. Deana never turned a hair - but called Adam over and asked him if he recognised Benedict. Adam's blank face was priceless and so was Benedict's embarrassment. Tee hee! Go, Deana!

The laugh of the night was Chris, babe magnet and superman fighting off thousands of women. He takes them on dates in an old van so that he can be sure they only love him for himself. In his shoes I'd drive the merc up to the door - he needs all the help he can get.
His attempts to be a lad's lad was a dismal failure as he window shopped the girls in the house - he just came across as creepy. He's also spiteful. His target is good looking Luke who, Chris insists, thinks he's alpha male in the house. Well. it certainly has to be said that Luke is handsome, tall, well dressed and very personable. He is also possessed of a deep voice. Poor Chris. Still, as if he doesn't have enough worries - he believes Victoria has a predatory eye on him. This made me rock with laughter.

Most of the men have declared themselves to be sex gods - it was therefore hilarious when they were faced with foul mouthed broad minded Ashleigh, being extremely explicit about how obliging she could be re every boy's secret fantasy. I think the boys were shocked into silence. And not silent longing, either.

Anyone else think Scott looked a little sinsiter from certain angles last night? The camera caught him more than once with a sly knowing look about him. He has found a little trio of men where he can dominate and discuss the Kinsey Report. He's going to be boring, I can tell, as he tries to convince the others that they are actually not straight.
This is annoying me as I took to him on launch night. of course on launch night his Lesley Phillips drawl wasn't so obvious.
Sorry it's a truncated version, but it's something to be going on with until tonight!

Dramas and Damp Squibs

Last night Luke A agonised about when to reveal his gender reassignment to HMs. He told Sara, perhaps in the hope that she would do it for him, but the dear girl respected his confidence. It was important to him , he said last night, not to feel like an outsider any more, to be able to go swimming with the others even though he has scars on his chest, to be accepted etc etc But he was afraid of negative reactions and rejection. He need not have feared. He first revelead his Secret to Caroline who did not react at all. Then when Adam confessed his criminal past and was declared amazing by Lydia, Luke trumped the burglaries of commercial premises with tales of testosterone injections. He invited questions and practically offered to show his scars, but Lydia thought he was amazing too. Only Adam had difficulty in getting his head round the situation but he was kindness itself. Did I imagine a vague disappointment on Luke's part? Later, he confessed again to Scott and Shievonne, but again little reaction. Ditto Benedict and Victoria. The only one to react was Lauren who said 'Oh, really?' He did try to whip up a little dramatic tension by telling Chris he was afraid to tell Aaron, Conor, and Luke S, but this last gasp attempt to create a touching drama failed too because Chris was quick to comfort. Ever a trier, In the DR, he admitted to relief that the Secret was out and went on to declare that BB had changed his life, that he now felt accepted by Society and not judged. All in all, his big drama was a damp squib. The trouble is he's tipped his hand too soon and condensed into one brief hour what should have been spread over several weeks - specially the 'bb has changed' my life routine.
Through it all, he remained remarkably self possessed which is what makes me a little suspicious of his hopes and fears act. His eyes were calm, it was all too pat.

Benedict was also in confessional mode. Ashleigh was thrilled to hear that he is a porn actor - she rocked in her chair, twitched, wrung her hands, swore a lot, and asked explicit questions. She twitches a lot, actualy, and I'm beginning to think she's rather unstable. But once again, the shock rveelation did not elctrify anyone.

Conor, Luke S, and Aaron did not so much confess as accidentally reveal themselves when they did the manly talk about the girls in the house. Luke S is intimidated by Sara in her high heels; Conor is intimidated by Victoria, who knws EVERYTHING about you-know-what. Luke S admitted to a wide experience of older women, you know, divorcees and such. Oh, really, where so they get their ideas from?

There was some drama from Lydia, who wept that she had no identity outside the house when she was displeased with Shievonne. Shievonne was somewhat bewildered by Lydia's revelation that she is engaged to a famous person whose identity she will not reveal, and has danced with famous persons whose names she will not give. In the end, she was brisk and practical which seemed to settle Lydia down a bit.

Deana also tried for a drama in the DR. She fled there to be alone, and when asked by BB what was wrong, told him 'nothing' and sat there like a pea on a pillow looking forlorn mysterious.

Plaudits for the evening go to Shievonne for her marvellous impersonations of the other HMs in her secret task. She was brilliant at humorously capturing their essence without the slightest hint of malice. Lydia, of course, took offence at the way she was portrayed. She is one touchy, tiresome lady.

So - tomorrow is high noon for Luke A when he faces the other Luke, Connor, and Aaron with his revelations. Will they spontaneously combust? I'm sure he hopes so!

I got fed up with the Luke A's 'backstory'. Loved the way Chris brought his chipmunk voice into the sexual spectrum vis a vis this backstory. I couldn't concentrate at all well last night, because I think there are too many people and I get confused. I shall hopefully come into my own once the population has reached ten.
Who is the one with the tattooed sock? I've forgotten. I really think this 'sock' is a symbol for our times and for this population of shuttling counters on the ludo board of mock-celebrity amid theatrically projected intention and misintention.

Adam sports a tattooed sock - Argyle pattern! Lends a whole new dimension to the saying 'The emperor has no clothes'.

Tears and Tantrums

First of all, a complaint about Brian's suits. Where does he get them? Doesn't he notice he's bursting out of them, just like last year. He is a nice looking man and he has a Channel 5 wardrobe mistress somewhere - can't anyone get him into a tailored jacket?

HMs were action men and women tonight - exercising together, bathing together, exchanging sultry glances, showing off manly torsos (the men) and shapely busts (the girls). While all this was going on, Luke A confessed his secret yet again, this time to Aaron - he need not have worried - Aaron was just thrilled to biscuits by the whole thing. Luke was proud to say that even when he feels emotional at being accepted, his testosterone prevents him from crying. Hmmmm. quite an alibi , testosterone. He's rather calculating, I think. Thankfully, there are only 2 still to be confessed to. For his next trick...?

Victoria had a rough time tonight. She quarrelled with Lydia's salad.'Is this a joke?' she said as if she hadn't noticed that Lydia is entirely humorless and quick to take offence. Lydia scowled ; Victoria duly decided she couldn't handle this and retreated to bed to hide from Lydia's glares behind a bunny eye mask.Later, In the Spin The Bottle Game, she had to be kissed by Benedict who manfully swept her off her feet and on to a sofa. She wasn't very delighted by that either. Then during Truth or Dare, she was wound up by yet another reference to her evil eyes, and a mention of eviction from Aaron. This led to a massive row with Aaron later . In the bedroom, she challenged him with what he had said and the little reptile, under the guise of being honest, was extremely vicious. For such a young man, he was very very cold and direct. Of course, he had been well fired up by the squeaky malice of Chris (he's a bit of a stirrer, isn't he?) and he was massively offended by Victoria's insistence on sleeping topless to make the public like her. Certainly didn't work with Aaron - still, it is never nice to see such nastiness directed at a woman of mature years by a brat. he is too young to be lecturing people on their attitude. He reduced her to swear words and an express desire to get away from all the fake people in the House. Which duly happened. I enjoyed her scathing comment about Aaron's metrosexuality, though (he quarrels while applying lip salve? I mean, really?)

Lauren and Luke S are getting very toasty - he couldn't keep his eyes of her neat little rear. She insists she's not a girly girl, that she prefers male company (she deserves to be locked up with Aaron to have her atttitude dissected), and that she can't understand why other girls don't like her... its starting already - the female HMs contempt for other female HMs. Tsk tsk - that's how you lose, girls.

A new HM was voted in by the public to take Victoria's place-Becky. Proud of her bingo wings, proud to be fat.
She ran screaming through the house in her excitement and plunged right into the pool in her evening gown, where she rolled like a whale in the sea. She's going to be wearing - I can feel it coming. Caroline came to speak to her and trashed Victoria, which was rather unecessary. All in all, it was an evening which began the revealing of HMs true personalities. Nicey-nicey is going out the window.

There was a storm outside making the eviction's process within the studio. Later there was another storm - a sudden squawking tornado - now inside the House itself. Becky Hannon. Only 19 but looks like an unwrinkled middle-ager. The hot tub overflowed when her first action was getting into it. But that fulsome gushing was caused by the tornado's lamina flows rather than the water's meniscus displacement. Mustn't be ungallant.

Victoria was rather engaging in her interview. A sad loss.

Lauren is developing as a character....an interesting face.

Must take a closer look at Caroline...I hadn't really noticed her before her tub-side chat with the Becky-in-eruption-eructation.

[Marion, I think it's 'Arron']

Arron it is.

I thought Victoria came across well too. And I have no idea why they all turned on her. You are right about there being too many people. The result is we are only seeing tiny glimpses of the HMs. It's diffciult to get a handle on what they are like. Then suddenly we are exposed to the collective loathing of the HMs for one person and are left puzzled by its vehemence. Once we lose a few, it will be easier.
