Bought the DVD of Christopher Nolan's The Prestige and, yes, I 'watched closely', but couldn't find much imaginative brilliance in it... certainly not enough to say it deserves mention in a genre top 10 list, and never mind being selected for a best of 25 years, like Nick Lowe's choices (fairly bewildering to me, at least!) in IZ #210.

Its intrigues linger too much on behind-the-scenes rivalry between the obsessed magicians - Hugh Jackman's simply no match for Christian Bale in the acting stakes, dreary 'sci-fi' romance (even Scarlett Johansson was vapid, and never thought I'd say that!) which might have seemed fresh 50 years ago in Fisher's Four-Sided Triangle, and lack of much genuine period atmosphere, when the drama might have really caught my interest if there'd been a lot more scenes about Tesla.

Ho-hum. It just seemed like 90-minutes worth of story dragged out for 2 hours.
