Looks beautiful, but I do worry they've tried to tick too many boxes.

Saw this yesterday, and my first reaction is that it's great (7/10, for effort), as an effective tribute to many 20th century SF movies (especially 1980s stuff... watch out for references to Aaron Lipstadt's Android).

I don't understand why so many people are saying it's rubbish. It's a nightmare movie with some fantastic genre imagery.

I'm afraid I wasn't a fan - too many holes for me, although some scenes were stunning, some very beautiful shots and designs. I think they could have made a better film with the ingredients if they just left the Alien story (franchise) out of it.

I've always felt that Alien is one of those films where everyone should have come together to say, "Leave this ALONE!"

Agreed - Alien, and Aliens, and stop.

Disagree... because then we wouldn't have got Aliens. I do think that Alien is slightly better than Aliens, in much the same way that Manhunter is better than Silence Of The Lambs but, in the end, they are different films with quite different genre content.

I also enjoyed the rest of the 'Alien quadrilogy', despite variable qualities of those franchised sequels (perhaps Alien 3 was the most disappointing?), and even the cross-over AVP and AVP: Requiem have their B-movie moments of comicbookish fun.
8)

A spin-off 'Chronicles of Ripley' (believe it or not!), with Whedon writing adventures for Weaver, might be wonderful or at least worthwhile.
