Am I the only Gilliam-fan who's a bit disappointed with this?

Yes, it's much better than Brothers Grimm, and there's a truly great, central performance from little Jodelle Ferland, and much of the film's brooding atmosphere is well achieved, but... for all it's supposed views of 'horror' through the eyes of a child, I still thought it was an old man's film, and a tired old man at that.

I read somewhere - can't find the link off-hand - where Sarah Polley wrote to Gilliam expressing her wish that he treats Jodelle Ferland better than how she was on the set of Baron Munchausen.

She too was very young at the time.
