I thought tonight's Poliakoff film - Capturing Mary - was the best TV ever! And brilliantly acted by Maggie Smith, David Walliams and Ruth Wilson.
A landmark. Elizabeth-Bowenesque. Haunting. Perfect about class sentiments, the gruesome underbelly to the times I've lived through. Absolutely darkly gorgeous. Can't praise it highly enough.

I was actually shocked. I was sitting behind my computer, television burbling in the background, half-finished story on my monitor. I had no idea what the show was about and who the characters were, but I found myself compelled to watch it. I ended up sitting on the floor, staring up at the television screen. It's like the man laced his words with some form of literary crack cocaine. Amazing stuff.

Superb, wasn't it? Really drew you in. And, true to Poliakoff style, it never quite did what you expected it was going to, but something more subtle instead. Ruth Wilson was excellent.

I'm now looking forward to 'Joe's Palace' and 'A Real Summer', which I taped.

A while back I finally got round to watching 'Shooting the Past'. One rainy day we popped in the first DVD thinking "we'll just watch one episode" - and ended up watching the whole shebang from start to finish. Great stuff, and a particularly fab performance from Timothy Spall.

I found it both funny and a little shocking. The scene with the kids on bicycles was a little upsetting but considering the storyline it fit quite well.
