Having exhausted all new ideas for sci-fi shows, the BBC is following up the success of Survivors by taking a cutting from another classic and trying to propagate an 'update':

I've not got anything against the Triffids--far, far from, in fact--but can't we have something that isn't American, isn't a remake and isn't aimed at kids?

And Torchwood doesn't count. I'm trying to forget it ever existed.

I'm fairly happy. Along with "Blake's 7", the latest batch of remakes seems keen to tap into a rich and quintessentially British seam of bleak, apocalyptic sci fi. It's a brand that's worth reviving.

That said, I wouldn't object to seeing something new. Something new that's emphatically not f*$&^% Torchwood at any rate.

Triffids definitely not US American, John Wyndham was British and set the original on these islands.

Just think, in 30 years time they'll be digging out Torchwood and re-making it!

You know, it's worth living another 30 years just to see that. I'm going to recycle more.

Talking of which, has anyone seen The Ruins? Triffids in a temple, one or two effective scenes but ultimately forgettable..
