A very quick update on the November email reading period: 276 submissions so far, totalling about 1341500 words. <snip> I intend to finish reading everything before Christmas.

Jesus Christ man! Are you some kind of reading machine or something?
(Don't forget the Christmas shopping - you should have a couple of spare minutes on the 24th).

It's IZ's worst-kept secret that Jetse is merely a front for a fully sentient distributed AI that lurks in the optical fibres of the planet. The beer-guzzling Dutchman we see at cons is just an avatar ... ;)

Or a paid actor?

So - does this mean that Jetse has (also) passed the Turing test?

Sorry for neglecting this thread a bit: the final tally for the November email submissions is 404, with a total wordcount that's 70,000 words short of two million.

I've been under the weather the past week, in such a way that reading helped me get through the day, but also that spending more than half an hour behind the computer was too tiring.

So I've read about a hundred and fifty submissions so far, but still need to respond to them, as I didn't have the energy to spend hours behind the keyboard typing responses.

Feeling quite a bit better today, so if that keeps up, responses should be out over the weekend.

Also, I might have some other submission related news shortly.

While sending out replies I'm getting more email delivery errors than usual. Seven so far, and that's more than all the previous email reading periods combined. So our interweb overlords are giving me a hard time.

Now I'm not blaming any of the authors out there: the errors are due to the internet providers.

For one, netzero (either as .com or .net) is bouncing all my replies: that is three responses so far. Luke Jackson contacted me and gave me an alternate email, and my reply got through. Bruce Golden and Scott Rolsen: if you read this, please email me at Jetse(dot)deVries(at)gmail(dot)com -- or the November IZ gmail address -- and I'll try to get my response your way.

For another, google itself blocked four of my replies, thinking they were spam! Sheesh! I was using gmail for the IZ email submissions because I thought it *worked* (and indeed it did the last three years).

Now it's starting to let me down. OK, I got no delivery errors when I resent those replies, but it's certainly not the idea to repeatedly resend gmails that google block itself.

Hopefully the latter is a temporary glitch.

In the meantime, I'm struggling onwards.

Time for some comic relief, two typos in personal responses:

    comaprison (while meaning 'comparison')

    meatfiction (while meaning 'metafiction')
And those are the ones I caught. Dog knows which ones got through...

Post subject:  SPAM Filtered Responses

Well - I've turned off all my SPAM filters so responses to my submission should get through with no hitches. My sympathies go out to you - it's bad enough dealing with a few emails when the providers are giving you jip without having to deal with the number you've got on you plate...

In the meantime, I'm becoming an expert on just about every remedy and potion available to increase the size of my manhood or the duration of my performance, and I've lost count of the number of invitations to chat with fictitious Eastern European ladies.

Have fun...

So it might be a day (or two, in the worst case) before everybody gets their sub acknowledged. It's getting near midnight here, and I am expected to work tomorrow.

So bear with me: I'll get there.

Do you respond to all submissions? I sent a story to the September2006 e-mail address and didn't receive any acknowledgment. Should I have?

Now I've been phished by

I should have posted this two weeks back, but forgot in all the maelstrom of other things demanding my attention:

I sent out responses to all submissions of the November email reading period by January 14. If you haven't received either a rejection or a hold, then do query me, as either something got lost, or your story fell through the cracks.

I also still keep getting mail daemon delivery failures for two people: Bruce Golden and Rick Norwood. Please contact me at Jetse (dot) deVries (at) gmail (dot) com, as my replies are not reaching you.

Whittling down the last 30 to a final 15 for my colleagues right now.
