Good for him. Briefly conversed by email with him a few years ago. Came across as a genuine guy. Plus, he likes The Fall - possibly the finest band ever.

To be honest, anyone who likes the Fall should be up for a 10-book deal. (that'll be me then )

...and me.
Some great Fall song titles out there as well, shame Mark E Smith thought of them first.

Have you read the short story collection 'inspired' by Fall songs, "Perverted by Language"? Got it on my shelf to read, but haven't dipped into it yet.
(apologies for going off topic!)

Off topic or not, you've got my attention! No, I haven't come across this book, but I think I ought to...do you have some publisher details?

Hi Dan: details are here. There's also another book edited by the same guy with Sonic Youth titles as the starting point for stories (another of my favourite bands).

As someone who's already got seven Reynolds books gazing down from my bookshelf this is great news.
The sheer number of books in the SF genre makes me wonder though that Reynolds wouldn't get slightly fatuiged, and want to produce something slightly different midway through the run. I find I often get bored of sticking to one genre in my own writing, and that's just short stories, so I often wonder how some of these authors manage to consistently produce novels year after year that stay within a certain field.

What a difference £1,000,000 makes.
Alastair was interviewed on Radio 4's Today this morning with Adam Roberts joining in. You can listen again for a week but you might want to 'fast forward' for about 2 hrs 50 minutes to get the relevant 5 minutes. Maybe they'll put something up on the best of... Podcasts.

Quite right, Roy. It's the magic word 'million' that's done it. Even our thicky media can get their heads around that number. I suspect that £875,000 would barely have raised an eyebrow with them.

And it keeps coming. Today's Guardian has a lengthy interview with Alastair Reynolds (by Stuart Jeffries, who admits to having never heard of him a week about but he speed-read one of his novels on the train to Wales by way of research). At one point Reynolds says, "It was hard to get published. Here, there was only really Interzone magazine - thank heavens for that - that took science fiction."
The pint's in the post.
I also suspect that every time Reynolds said "SF", Jeffries substituted "sci-fi".

"More power to his elbow," but boy am I envious. Reminds me of that notorious deal done with David Wingrove & the "chinese books..."

I suspect that he only inspired him enough to phone up Eric Brown for some info.

The sooner we ditch "sci-fi" has a tag the better.
