My competition entry has bounced back, too. Although I noticed I'd used the same one as Nat. I couldn't see anything different in the actual magazine.

Yet another outstanding issue. The Ray Cluley story was my fave of the fiction; a motel so seedy I felt like washing my hands after reading it!
Great feature on DF Lewis, even if you do need a dictionary to hand to follow his replies

It's been a while since I've commented on an issue here...
Actually, if I'm honest, it's been a while since I read one. I got out of the habit with university exams, etc, and so have just started working my way through a delicious backlog of issues. So, if they find me dead next week, you'll all know that I overdosed on Black Static.
Anyway, #25. I loved in particular Ray and Alison's stories, but my favourite had to be Christopher's. The atmosphere was beautifully crafted.

Issue 25 over all too soon. Leaves you wanting more. Favourite story of this issue was Christopher Fowler's 'The Curtain Parts', which tapped very effectively into my nightmares with some truly disturbing imagery.

As usual some great columns and reviews in this issue.
As for the fiction:
About The Dark - felt this particularly evocative, although probably too obvious at the end. A straightforward shocker.
The Curtain Parts - Extremely creepy if a little contrived. Probably my favourite story in the magazine, although I felt the main protagonist's reaction at the end was a little strange. Wouldn't she have reported it to the police? Maybe I missed something.
The Travellers Stay - Another evocative story. Another one, though, where I had to suspend my disbelief at the main character's own suspension of disbelief at the transformation scene. I think I'd have preferred he hooked up with the girl at the end
The Holy Spear - Liked the set-up with this story, although found the opera trappings a little convenient and the metaphor rather heavy handed.
Best. Summer. Ever. - Great fun ! I'll never look at my socks in quite the same way again.
Overall, an enjoyable issue with stories that made me think even if I wasn't always 100% in love with them (although I guess that's what makes a strong relationship!)
