Arrived in Norwich on Saturday and it looks great. Already read Stephen Volk's column which was entertainingly depressing (if that's possible). I long for the day when Steve will report going into a TV exec meeting with four proposals and saying how the execs were so spoilt for choice that they took all of them - and then commissioned him to write more just for the hell of it. Although I wonder if that ever happened even in the good old days

Another solid issue. Stephen Volk's column, as always, was educational, inspiring and clearly passionate. I await part two with eagerness. The fiction was strong once again with clear themes linking the pieces and providing a cohesion to the magazine which sets it apart from the competition. Steven J. Dines's post-apocalyptic 'The Sound of Constant Thunder' just edged out Laura Mauro's 'When Charlie Sleeps' as my favourite of the issue and I look forward to future stories from them.

Andrew - my column this time is as mild a reaction as I can make it. Sorry to be depressing! You wouldn't want me to lie, would you? Everything is true! God knows it has never been easy, but times are changing and I feel the need to remark on it. But it's hard not limiting my column to two words, the second being "them".

For the avoidance of doubt, my comment was tongue in cheek Steve. No complaints about you reporting from the front line, more of a wish list that the situation itself (rather than the column content) could be different.

A lot of high-quality stories in this one, so very hard to pick favourites, but I think the very disturbing 'All Your Faces Drown in My Syringe' just about edges out the competition for me, with 'When Charlie Sleeps' and 'Bones of Crow' coming up close behind. A couple of stories surprised me with some unexpected climaxes as well, which is always a pleasant surprise.

Hi Andrew... I know that, mate. Hence the I just wanted to explain that I would have made it less depressing if I could! I'll be interested what you make of next issue!

A solid issue to close out the year. My favourite was Rob Moore's "All Your Faces Drown in My Syringe." The first third didn't grab me but the final two thirds, particularly the ending, was brilliant.

My favourite issue of the year so far. Enjoyed all the stories but top of the pile were Ray's story which combined startling and very effective imagery with a nicely ambiguous story. Best of all though was Ralph Robert Moore's though, one of the best stories I've read this year - a great concept, beautifully executed. All of which bodes well fo rtheir collaboration in Shadows & Tall Trees 6.
