As far as I know, #40 hasn't been sent out yet. Possibly next week.

From the TTA facebook page on May 15th:

'All subscriber/contributor copies of Interzone 252, Black Static 40 and Carole Johnstone's Cold Turkey are now in the post. We hope you enjoy the new stuff, and that overseas copies arrive in good time. Please let us know.'

My copies of Black Static #40, Interzone #252, and TTA Novella #3 all arrived safe and sound here in Edinburgh this morning :D

As usual they all look absolutely fantastic. I will be spending the rest of this week ignoring the nice weather outside and instead will be spending my time sitting on the sofa reading

Just arrived in a storm-kissed South Lanarkshire, chuffed to see a feature on Our Leader AKA Big Ramsey highlighted on the cover.

Just when you think Black Static may have peaked they bring out another issue that raises the bar still further. The non-fiction is a delight as always with a particularly fascinating interview with Mr Campbell.

As for the fiction, well, when a Rasnic Tem story has me placing it as my least favourite of the issue you know it's been a wondrous collection of stories. 'The Hanged Man' is a well-told and interesting story but it felt a little too surreal to really grab me emotionally.

'Revello Steps' by Chris Barnham whilst being a fairly recognisable story trope is well crafted, making good use of stylistic touches and an unreliable narrator to tease out details for the reader.

'Golden Avery' by Sarah Read is a vicious read that worked really well in contrast to the other, more restrained, stories.

'World of Trevor' by Stephen Hargadon creates a vivid world for it's slightly lightweight storyline and the well realised characters are also a highlight.

'Reclamation Yard' by Paul Meloy is everything anyone who has read his collection Islington Crocodiles has come to expect from his work. Imaginative locations and beasts rooted firmly with one foot in the real world by recognisable characters you care for. His forthcoming novel from Solaris cannot come soon enough.

Finally my favourite story of the issue 'The Crone at the Meadow Gate' by Tim Casson, simply a delight from first line to last.

Roll on issue 41!

I'd have paid the cover price for Meloy's alone, I loved it. Favourite of the year.

For me the Meloy was a slow burner, but it really kicked in when (without giving away spoilers) those bowler-hatted characters arrived. From then on it had me enraptured.

Loved the Casson story too - I'm always impressed by his stuff.
