Hello everyone,

I'm new to the TTA Press forums and would like to introduce myself. I live in Brighton, been writing on and off now for the last few years and have had varying success. I'm currently writing my second novel, the first of which I self-published on Amazon.

It was a very strange experience self-publishing - at least it felt so for me. I've sold quite a few books (I think over 1,000 now) but it's difficult having something out there that hasn't been officially 'approved' by a traditional publisher.

Anyway, before I bore anyone further with my experiences as a writer I wondered if you could help me. Early February, I submitted a piece of short fiction to Black Static. I haven't heard back as yet and I did send an enquiry via the form on the website about a month ago but didn't get a response. Does anyone know what the response time is for Black Static? I don't mind rejection (and can wait longer if needed) but it would be good to know one way or the other so I can try another market if need be.

Thanks for your help.

Chris Roper

Andy has usually made a decision within 2 months Chris so you should have heard now. What was the title?
We'll be in Brighton for World Fantasycon this year. I'll have a stand for TTA so if you can get there come and see us.
Best of luck with the story and next book

Hi Roy,

The story is called 'Anathema: The Underside'. I was checking the Story Acceptances section regularly but nothing new has been added for a while now. Before I move on to researching other outlets for it I wanted to be sure of Andy's decision. Should I assume the story has been rejected?

WFC sounds great - I've never been to one before and a TTA presence will make the trip even more worthwhile (not to mention Richard Matheson, one of my favourite authors!). I've put the date in my diary.

I'll check with Andy and let you know what I find out.
Are you sure you included the SAE?
As an author don't forget WFC should be tax deductable assuming you pay tax.
Mind you I think subscriptions should be as well - "market research"

Yep, followed the submission guidelines to the letter, including an SAE (purely for a response, the manuscript was expendable) and a short letter introducing myself.

Thank you, I appreciate you looking into this for me.

Yes I pay tax so that's a useful thing to know, thank you.
