Another empty church. The gothic sides,
Damp and mouldy, prop mirthless stones where breath
Stands by between the slabs. The noble hide
Is eerie, dead and black, its little left
Holding back from traffic, for all the tricks
Of leaves. Old pews are naked boney things
When ribbed in their cavernous way, whilst licks
Of fingertips across their surface brings
The care to light, right below the dust. Faith Sat here once. This air was full, as precise
With voices as if turned upon a lathe.
Kneeward folks took care in praying, the nice
In tune with God while, over serried graves
Outside, hymns heaped unheard on heads of those
Who sauntered past, dog on lead. Those blinking
Sunday souls stood still, in patient rows
Counting fittings on the walls, or winking
Lights upon the altar silver. Dreaming
Quite sure, that old church, God intervening.

Well, what a pleasant surprise to find on the board after a short absence - a little gem has appeared. I really like this, Richard, from the breath standing by between the slabs to the boney ribbed pews to the faith that stood there once, to the hymns heaped unheard...
Very well done indeed - atmospheric!
