Quote: The devil insideWhen Joe Hill decided to become a writer -- a horror writer no less -- he knew comparisons to his father, Stephen King, would be inevitable. So he tried to keep it a secret, until his success gave him away.

After reading 20th Century Ghosts I embarassingly recommended it to my creative writing class saying 'this guy will be huge, he writes a bit like Stephen King did in the old days, brilliant'.
And, er, yeah. He's his son.

Yeah - a brave move. Not sure I could be so restrained if I had an 'in' like that with the industry.
Just finished reading Horns - fabulous book.

Terry Pratchett enters parallel worlds of science fiction
Quote: Author best known for Discworld series of fantasy novels is returning to (an) idea he had almost 25 years ago
No, not Terry but Stephen Baxter otherwise I could have posted this in the Guardian SF thread.

One of Interzone's top fiction contributors reviews SF for the Guardian and in Saturday's edition he covered novels from 3 prolific IZ contributors in his four reviews;
Black Lung Captain Chris Wooding is odd man out with no IZ credits so far,
The Holy Machine, Chris Beckett is now on board with a major UK publishing house Corvus,
The Dervish House Ian McDonald whose 6th story for IZ appeared in IZ 109 in 1996,
Stone Spring by Stephen Baxter who is Interzone's most prolific with 36 entries in the fiction column.

Hmmm... not good. "Baffling" seems to be the best description.

Music For Another World has just been published - I'm holding my copy in my hands right now - and it has stories by Aliette de Boddard, Neil Williamson, Vaughan Stanger, Stephen Gaskell, Andrew Hook and - ahem - me. And plenty of others too.
It looks damned tasty, even if I say so myself.

Um, that would be Vaughan Stanger. That pesky extra "r" gets everywhere.
I think editor Mark Harding has done a terrific job with this book. Even if I didn't have a story in it, I'd be reaching for my wallet if I saw it in a shop.

Thanks, Jim!
(On one occasion, many years ago, I received some snail mail from British Gas addressed to "V. Strangler". I refuted their claim, of course.)
