Quote: Valente's latest novel Deathless reworks the Slavic fairytale of Koschei the Deathless, returning Valente to her ongoing fascination with folk and fairytales. Valente describes her own work, along with other writers including Ekaterina Sedia and Theodora Goss, as "mythpunk" fiction that combines fantasy, folktale and myth with postmodern techniques, non-linear storytelling and academic critique. The results are fantasy that begins to capture the highly subjective truths of contemporary reality.

Quote: Seeking Monk Punk stories between 1000 and 6000 words that will help broaden and define this elusive sub-genre of speculative fiction. Monk Punk is a variant strain of science fiction where lovable monks are the heroes (or anti-heros) of events unfolding in a post-apocalyptic era, alt-history era, fantasy setting, or historical fiction setting.
Closed for subs but another 'punk'.

Well, it goes down far better at book clubs than even the classic works of fartinaliftpunk.

I'm saying this in the hope/fear/cynical belief that it's been done already: surely there's already been a 90s-themed derivative in which shamelessly neoliberal governments (with various "third way" ideological fronts) scrap net neutrality for an already slow dial-up Internet for corporate gain, where the protagonists' primary vehicle of communication are cheesy-fonted GeoCities-style webpages, casettes and VHS tapes, where getting a gigabyte of RAM involves cramming 64 RAM boards into a single machine and getting them to sync, and where pogs are really, really significant somehow; a horrendous, dystopic scene wrapped in shiny marketing.
It's almost certainly out there, but if not, I am provisionally naming it Blairpunk and taking the credit when it inevitably becomes big enough to warrant its own Wikipedia page.

I think retro 70s game themes will be the next big SF trope. So I'm putting my money on an imminent publishing boom for Kerplunkpunk.

Mwahahahahahahaaa!!!
We now return to our regularly scheduled thread.
