maybe it could be accompanied with a mini-interview or mag background info. "Magazine Spotlight" for example?
I did consider that, but while it's fine in theory not too sure about the practicality, partly for reasons of space, but also because my review might not be flattering, which could make interviewing the editor a bit iffy.
I have the same consideration with the author feature, and some of the people I interview are actually second or (once) third choices, simply because I didn't like the first choice as much as I expected to. I don't want to put myself in the situation where I interact with somebody during an interview and then, when the magazine turns up, they find that I've trashed the book. It seems slightly underhand to me.
With magazines, I'd prefer not to be inundated with titles, as I am with books. Rather, my feeling is that the right way to proceed is to ask a publisher to send something on the understanding that it
will be reviewed, though not with any guarantee of a favourable result.
Of course we do have the option to follow up/expand on any review by posting material to the website.
