It's the distinctive Black Static aroma - drives the cannibals wild.

Usually I'm safe where I am, but every so often the wind changes direction and Chez Tennant is besieged by hordes of ravenous cannibals and at night I'm kept awake by the rumbling of their empty stomachs and a hideous cacophony of screams as they try to clamber over the electric fence and ford the acid filled moat.

And Andrew Hook claims to live in Darkest Norfolk. He doesn't know the meaning of the term. I visited Norwich once, and the posh buggers even have hot and cold running water.

Arrived in France this morning - closely followed by a wild boar, which in turn was closely followed by a couple of dogs. Frightened the life out of our cats, who ran for it (as cats do) and hid in the barn for a couple of hours - just to be sure they had gone away.

What with your wild boars and Pete's cannibals, I'm beginning to think I need to move somewhere more interesting.

Mine too has arrived but I haven't started reading it yet. I've just finished reading the story about the sabre toothed tiger from Norwich oops Siberia in the previous issue of Black Static oops Interzone.

What happened to the DVD competitions, Andy? Too much hassle chasing up suppliers? I miss them!

Has arrived in Canada! Woot!

That sometimes is too much hassle for something that should be so simple. Sometimes it's a breeze, as with StudioCanal, sometimes... not. So that is something to bear in mind, but it's probably more to do with release dates and reviews (I'm more careful now than I was in the beginning, because a competition accompanied by a bad review can be embarrassing for the PR company concerned), and stuff like that.

Btw, while the number of entries we receive did go up a lot at one point, they've settled back down again, to what -- to me -- is a very disappointing number. Maybe it's an average percentage for these things, but I suppose I just can't figure out why every Black Static reader doesn't enter. Perhaps Black Static readers just don't feel very lucky!

But I haven't abandoned the idea, don't worry. Competitions for DVDs and Blu-rays will still feature, just more so in some issues than others.

This issue does have a book competition though, and obviously if every Black Static reader doesn't want a copy of Ali's A Cold Season we really are wasting our time. I'm sure most readers will already have bought that though!
