That was definitely the record that impressed me the most last year. I've been a big fan of PJ Harvey for years, but I think I'd never been blown away by one of her records like that. I'm also amazed that she had the guts to do something so radically different from her previous albums. And her show in Paris last November was overwhelming.

I'm listening to a lot of Eleni Mandell right now, because I got to see her live twice in Paris recently and also to do an interview for a French webzine. I'm really impressed by her voice and her songwriting, but she's sadly underrated over here. Also listening to The Dresden Dolls, I've just been introduced to their music and I love it.

Rolo Tomassi, Battles and Teenage Bottlerocket. Plus some of the ATP/Pitchfork bands on MySpace. Had a great moment over the weekend when I had Wooden Shjips playing alongside The Longest Journey. :D

Any good, Andy? I thought her last album was interesting, but in an ineffectual sort of way - not enough to make rush out to get the new one yet.

You could change my mind though...

Somehow I missed your post Neil, sorry. I think it's wonderful, real sultry stuff, and better than Real Life.

Right now listening to I Know You're Married But I've Got Feelings Too by Martha Wainwright, who I've loved since before she was trendy. I love to listen to her dad too. (But I can't stand Rufus!)

Lots of Motorhead, plus a Shostakovich opera called Cheryomushki. It's a social realist comedy about a municipal block of flats. And it's got a banjo.
