This is not quite a repeat of the Interzone Home Page announcement.

Yes I will be selling the magazines and books (including Tony's) there but as I cannot drive and park near that venue I'll be lugging them around in a suitcase. So stocks will be limited and you can help me reduce the burden by letting me know in advance if you know you want specific, recent, issues of BS or IZ. (or Crimewave etc)

I'm told these lunchtime events are normally poetry readings so hopefully we'll find a new audience for IZ and Tony.

A chance for Manchester’s SF magazine starved millions to get their hands on the hard stuff.

We have organised a lunchtime reading by Interzone alumni Tony Ballantyne at the Central Library (St Peter’s Square) in the 2nd floor Reception Roomon Wednesday 11 June 1-2pm.

Roy will be selling Interzone and Black Static and a few books in the room before and after the event and will try to be set up there by 12:30. Entry is free but the books and magazines aren’t, though prices tend to be less than cover.

Recent converts to IZ will not have seen any stories from Tony unless they started before September 2003, when ‘The Ugly Truth’ appeared in Interzone 191, or are picking up back issues from the David Pringle era.
Tony’s first SF appeared in Interzone 138, December 1998, and by 2003 his appearances had risen to 12 and he was firmly part of Interzone’s second generation of British SF authors. His first novel Recursion was published July 2004 and two more had appeared by May 2007; Capacity and Divergence. Parts of all these were based on ideas first explored in Interzone.

Good old Borders. They have a huge shop on the Fort Shopping Centre on Cheetham Hill Road and they stock Interzone. There were 4 issues of IZ 217 on the magazine racks along with Dr Who etc under the label Films.

The shop is on the junction of North St with Cheetham Hill Road just less than a mile from the Printworks. A little out of the centre so it's easier to subscribe but if thats not convenient at least you can get a copy now Waterstones have stopped selling magazines.

Today there were 4 copies of IZ 219 in Borders in Stockport's Peel Centre.
Unfortunately they were on the back rack of the bottom set of a block of 3 shelf sets each with 3 racks. So IZ would be visible to any 5 year olds walking past and all but invisible to any taller bypassers. The racks in front had 2000 AD, Judge Dread and most prominently Sci Fi Now, Essential X Man, etc., etc. The three US digest SF mags were close to IZ but easier to see because of their 'small stature'. The upper shelf didn't block the view.

Interestingly that Borders also stocks Realms of Fantasy. That has a high visibility location just below my, admittedly low, eye level. ROF was accompanied by Fangoria, SFX, Dr Who, etc., etc., and now by IZ as it seemed a shame to leave Kenn Brown's cover art in concealment. However no doubt all will be set back to normal when IZ 220 arrives.

The prominent mags in the top shelf block were Heroes, Empire etc.

It seems a good bookshop so if any of you are around there in the near future please let us know how many IZ 219s or IZ 220's are left.
