Andy,
This probably isn't really the right place to ask such a delicate question but...oh, what the hell, let's pull the pin out of the grenade and toss it in!
Is there any chance of Interzone going back to monthly issues? Or would that require a step-change in resource and/or sales? And I'm guessing that your priority will be to get Black Static launched first....
I've been subscribing since 1989, and IZ went monthly within a yaer of that (my sub was obviously what tilted the balance). Even after several years, it's too long a wait for bi-monthly issues to arrive.
Colin

I have a hard enough job reading it bi-monthly! In fact I've only been able to dip into most issues since Andy & Co took over, so please keep it as it is

Far as I'm concerned Black Static should be up and running before we talk about publishing Interzone monthly.

I'm content with IZ being bi-monthly. I'd be quite happy if an extra six issues hit my doormat each year, but I'd feel the pain of subscription renewal more sharply, and I'd hate to see any of the content quality dipping as a result of trying to beat shorter deadlines and get the issues printed sooner.
Besides, I too am waiting with bated breath for the triumphant return of Black Static!

What's wrong with a weekly? No one's tried that for a while.

I'm echoing Pete's sentiments.

Okay. Fortnightly, alternating with Black Static. That way everyone's happy.
Heh heh.

Only 12 votes? Something tells me you're not taking this poll seriously...
Colin, I think that things are different now, even in the short time since Interzone was monthly and apparently thriving and, importantly, receiving an Arts Council grant. I'd love to be able to do it, personally. Another six issues a year would enable us to do pretty much everything we want to, and I think it'd be possible to work through or around any potential problems -- but realistically such a move is still a way off I think. It's a nice thought though.

In an ideal world, I'd like to see Interzone revert to a monthly schedule (I'm a fast reader and two months feels like a long wait between issues) - but I realise that it's probably neither possible nor practical.

Andy,
Interesting results -- I didn't vote as I'd already voted by raising the topic, but maybe I was counted amongst the 12 on that basis.
I did mention in the original post that I guess Black Static would be your priority, and rightly so, but I'd still like to see it back to monthly eventually. Maybe you ought to see about Arts Council funding? (I'd love to know what criteria they base funding on; I suspect that magazines that aren't haemorraging money are probably automatically excluded)
Maybe sometime before the 50th anniversary!
Colin

Do the Interzone editorial staff feel they receive enough good material to publish 12 issues a year?
I assume at present we see (in their view) the best 30 stories (or thereabouts) that are submitted to them; if they published the next-best 30 as well, would that nevertheless maintain the quality of the magazine or do they feel it could lower it so that readers loose interest?
Are there advantages to 12 issues? Would it mean stories which didn't get published - even though they had their supporters on the editorial team - because they also had their detractors, could now be published? This would allow a less consensual, more controversial, approach to what stories are published.
