| So, is Sam Tyler in a coma or has he really gone back in time? |

He's a subject of an early moring TV 'Open University' experiment that has extrapolated a future where there is such a thing as Breakfast TV! _________________ CERN ZOO |

I only watched a couple of episodes on rented DVD (from 1st boxset), and was not very impressed or interested enough to continue...
Seems to me (after skim of other forums' threads), LOM is all about watching TV, really. The psych time-warp effect of re-runs, the phildickian impact of channel surfing and 15-min fame of 'reality' shows, etc.
I think comments like "I'd prefer to watch repeats of The Sweeney" says it all...

Sounds like "A Dream of Wessex" by Chris Priest that I've only just got around to reading! |

'Dream of Wessex' is one of my all time favourite novels. (It certainly didn't bore me!) _________________ CERN ZOO |

| Of course, I meant in concept rather than boredom factor. Agree with you about the book. Great stuff! |

Sorry, Andrew, that was my rather silly joke (play on words) about the Severn bore!
But, jokes aside, D of W is a truly great novel. _________________ CERN ZOO |

I'm loving Life On Mars - it's great stuff. I admit I've never watched any of these old cop shows it riffs off, but I've never really been a big fan of TV and I choose the shows I do watch very carefully.
However, as far as the coma/time travel/madness question goes, it seems fairly clear to me that the coma/time travel option is the only logical one. By a process of elimination you can rule the others out with a fair degree of confidence.
But I'm not going to give any examples, as it's a while since I saw any episodes (bring on S02E04!) so it's not exactly fresh in my mind... _________________ Shaun C. Green

I think last night's 'wife swap party' episode was silly. And not very good.
Also, generally, I don't remember 1973 being quite so different from today.
1953 maybe. But not 1973. _________________ CERN ZOO |

I really enjoy Life on Mars and I did watch The Sweeney first time round.
Any guesses on the ending? I think Sam is going to finally wake up in his own time but then meet all the people he "knew" in 1973.
The differences between 1953 and 1973 must have been enormous - the sixties came in between (although in some circles The Sixties also included the early part of the 70s). |

| Nah. The clue's in the title. He's on Mars, isn't he? Say, around 2050, in suspended animation. Or a coma. |

POSSIBLE SPOILER RE FINAL EPISODE
'The Dream of Wessex' was mentioned above. It was more a replica plot of 'The Affirmation'. _________________ CERN ZOO |
